My sweet big girl is EIGHT! This means we are almost halfway done with raising her. Wow. I feel halfway old.
Arwen is my number one girl. My sidekick. My go to girl. My helper in chief.
If I ever get caught with my head in my hands or a heavy sigh, she is quick to pick up on it and ask what she can do for me. I guard her childhood carefully, never wanting her to bare my burdens.
Arwen is quick to give when she sees a need. When given a choice to make she will usually ask what I think she should choose. She wants to please her mamma and Daddy and more importantly, she desires to please God.
Arwen can talk for hours. She has big BIG ideas. I don’t know where she gets it from!
She is the first to take one for the team, as she wears her role of “oldest” proudly. In fact, it’s the first thing she says when she meets someone. “My name is Ah-wen. A R W E N. I can’t say my r’s and I’m the oldest!”
So despite all the chaos of life in our house, when Arwen said she wanted a birthday at the creek with dragonfly and lady bug cupcakes, I did all I could to deliver.
It was all last minute due to Brent’s work schedule, but I wrangled a few people to come surprise Arwen.
While she and Daddy finished up our Saturday market I whipped up a quick creek side party scene. (With lots of help from my parents and friends who sweated in the heat with me. I am forever indebted.)
Um. There were supposed to be 30 balloons for everyone to jump out from behind. But the kit shorted me five. I ran out of helium at 23. Then we popped one. Then I lost three trying to get them into the car. Then one popped on the grass. So, yeah…
Then I spent $1 shy of one million dollars on these cupcakes from Whole Foods and half of the dragonflies faces fell off before Arwen even blew out the candle.
I’m an excellent party planner.
I also had salad for my guests to eat with their fingers since I forgot forks.
But once we were done we hit the cool water!
Can you even believe that we had the nerve to go near another creek?? Evie had one near drowning incident, but other than that it went well. (Some people never learn. Sheesh.)
We had tons of fun though!
Arwen came home to a brand new Schwinn from Mamma and Daddy. And quite possibly her favorite gift: our first egg from our chickens!
Happy birthday, Arwen! I’m so glad I get to be your mom!!!
